Governing Body
School governors make a valuable contribution to children’s education, opportunities and futures
The Governing Body (FGB) provides strategic leadership and accountability; it has three key functions:
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
- Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
Governors must be prepared to adopt the Nolan principles of public life:
selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership
The standard term of office for a Governor is four years, however Governors may choose to serve multiple terms. Governance is a voluntary role and therefore is not paid.
Each half term a full FGB meeting is held which all Governors are expected to attend. This is in addition to a range of other commitments, including being attached to a curriculum area or group of learners, undertaking regular governor training in order to keep up-to-date with local and national strategy, visiting the school regularly and actively supporting the work of the school, promoting it within the local community.
Dates of the FGB meetings for the academic year 2024-25 can be found on the website calendar or within the 'Diary Dates' overviews that are emailed out monthly to all parents and carers.
The Governing Body can be contacted via the clerk: clerk@manorcroft.surrey.sch.uk
